Improving Your Health Habits Improves Work Performance

Do you ever feel tired, sluggish, distracted, or bored at work? Is it tough to stay energetic and focused? Do you have to take multiple coffee or tea breaks just to make it through the day? Some of this may be because you have a job that is tough to get excited about. But much of this could also be because your body is telling you something is not right and something needs to change.

Here are a few habits you can do to help feel tons better at your desk job.

1) Drink water instead of caffeine. When your body is dehydrated, it feels tired and sluggish. When you drink coffee, tea, or other caffeinated beverages your body loses more water from the diuretic effect of caffeine. Hold back on the caffeine and sip on water all day. Carry your own water bottle and try to drink at least 2 liters of water throughout your work day.

2) Stop eating when your hunger is satisfied. Don't keep eating till you are stuffed at lunch or dinner. This will keep your blood sugar normal, your energy levels consistent, and keep you from having those crashes in energy when you get back to work after lunch.

3) Do some regular extra curricular exercise. Whether you run, go to the gym, do a group fitness or gym class, or do some other form of sport or exercise, try to be active for at least 30 minutes per day. Getting your heart pumping and making yourself breath and sweat a little actually boost your energy levels. I even like exercising in the morning to get my body kick started for the day.

4) Get on a regular sleep routine. Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep at a stretch every night, preferably around the same time every night. This will help restore your body and keep it in a routine. Shut off the screens and technology and get to bed to let your body rest.

Give these tips a shot and see how it changes your work day for the better!
